Men have been connected with the lace over the centuries mainly as designers and traders. One only needs to think of Thomas Lester and his associated lace patterns. Emil Hannover helped promote interest in Tønder lace especially through his book.

Today male lace makers are a thriving, eclectic bunch of young and old enthusiasts who are proud to be known as lace makers as well as designers of both traditional and contemporary lace. When I was designing my website I was determined to use it as a showcase for male lace makers. I decided to call these pages Men n’ Lace. This decision has brought me great rewards as it has introduced me to a worldwide community of fellow lace enthusiasts.

I have written a two part article on Men n’ Lace for the Lace Guild of Great Britain:

Men n Lace Part 1.pdf

Men n Lace Part 2.pdf

For those male lace makers who do not have their own websites I have included some pictures and information on separate page. If you know of any male lace makers who would like to be included please contact me via email. They are: Leonard Bazar; Pablo Gustavo Cocconi; David Collyer; Priit Halberg; Chris Davey; Sam Jakobsson; Premysl Knap; Ernst Ziesler

Here are some websites of male lacemakers:

Arne and Aage    Francis Busschaert     Bjarne Drews    Ben Fikkert    Mark Myers    Achim Siebert    Peter Sørensen
