Following on from the chorus of admiration regarding David’s Tønder Lace Edging here is David’s latest project executed in the Chantilly lace technique. Chantilly is a town in  North-eastern France.  Chantilly is a continuos lace usually executed in black whose heyday was in the second half of the eighteenth century. Said to be a favourite of Madame du Barry and Marie Antoinette unfortunately Chantilly lacemakers encountered the wrath of the mob and suffered the same fate of their royal patrons.

Under Napoleon Chantilly lace was revived in the Normandy area the black lace being particularly popular in Spain.
