Organ: ‘King of Instruments’

My interest in the ‘King of Instruments’ was kindled through being awarded an Organ Scholarship by the Edinburgh Diocese of the Scottish Episcopal Church. I was taught organ by the then Cathedral organist Dennis Townhill.

I have also studied the organ with John Kitchen when Organ Scholar to St Andrews University.

Whilst at Sheffield University I won the Lady Elgin Trophy at the Dunfermline Organ Competition and was a prize winner at the Oundle International Organ Week which gave me the opportunity to attend a study weekend with Jacques Van Oortmerssen.

I enjoy communicating my delight in the the majestic yet also intimate sound world of the organ through giving recitals these have included:

Jesus College Oxford, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Queens College Oxford, Dunblane Cathedral, Rochdale Town Hall, St Ninians Cathedral Perth, St Peter Mancroft Norwich.

Piano

I began my music education by studying the pianoforte. I was fortunate to be a student of the Junior Department , Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. I still enjoy accompanying on the piano. I was accompanist for first and final year recitals and accompanist and repetitur for the Opera Society production of Mahagony Songspiel, at Sheffield University.
