I became interested in Swiss straw work after attending a talk and workshop given by Veronica Main in Edinburgh.  This was kindled further after visiting the Musée Gruérien at Bulle in the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The Museum occupies the basement of the Library at Bulle and is a fascinating introduction into the arts and heritage of the Gruyere region.

Included in the display are examples of Swiss Straw work.

This craft is associated with lace as straw was incorporated with Horsehair to make strips of lace which adorned hats.

To find out more about Swiss straw there is an excellent book by Veronica Main. You could also visit the Museum at Bulle and the Straw Museum at Wohlen.

In Britain there is the Guild of Straw Craftsmen.

You can plait straw to make a Christmas Straw Crown.
