Patchwork and Quilting

Detail of Blue Wholecloth Quilt
Patchwork and quilting could be said to be the ultimate utilitarian embroidery recycling technique. With patchwork you sew scraps of fabric together to form a new 'pieced' textile. Patchwork is often used as the uppermost layer of a quilt. A quilt is a sandwich of two layers of fabric with a layer of wadding in between. Quilting is the stitches which are used to secure the layers of fabric together .
