Rag rugs give warmth, add colour and texture to an interior decoration scheme. Best of all they are the ultimate recycled textile.
Proggy or Hooky?
There two techniques:
Hooking and Progging
Hooking as the name suggests hooks the strip of fabric in a continuous movement. The pattern is made from the right side of the backing hessian.
Progging pushes a scrap of material through the wrong side of the backing hessian. As you travel about the country you find different names for rag rugs. You can also make rag rugs through plaiting strips of fabric or crocheting rags.
